Dymock 1st XI welcomed Woodmancote 2nd XI to the Pound on Saturday 14th May, skipper York Senior won the toss and made no hesitation in batting first on a good looking track, despite the rain earlier in the week. Harry Senior and Will Green opened the innings and started off slowly as the opening attack of Kumar and Amin were getting early movement. Senior was looking accomplished and timing the ball well but was struggling to find the gaps early on. He departed for a well-made 40 (five fours and a six), which brought Dave Williams to the crease, he soon settled in and took the attack to the bowling sending the ball to all parts of the ground he however attempted one shot to many and was caught for a well-made 38. Nick Williams joined Green at the crease and the latter was moving along to 50 albeit very slowly, however once Green passed 50 he really took the attack to the bowling he was particularly savage on anything short or overpitched from the leg spinner Goring and with Williams playing the supporting role the total was soon clocking up. Williams departed for 12 bowled by Goring and Harry Wise kept Green company as he passed 3 figures for his maiden Dymock CC century, Green chanced his arm one time to many and was bowled by Goring for 111 (14 fours 4 sixes), it was left to Wise and 1st team debutant James Field to bat out the overs and they took the score to 283 for 4 at the close of 45 overs. Wise 19 NO and Field 28 NO both played some entertaining strokes and hit some big sixes. Paul Goring 2-64 was the pick of the visitors attack.

After tea Dymock knew that a good start would peg the opposition back and put pressure on them. Dymock opened up with Dan Risbey and Dave Moreton an early breakthrough was achieved as both bowlers took a wicket apiece to leave Woodmancote 10 for 2 after 5 overs. Frustratingly for Dymock the opposition didn’t seem interested in attempting to go after the home sides target, Moreton bowled his 9 overs straight through for superb figures of 9-6-7-2 and in truth deserved more wickets as he bowled a disciplined line and length. 1st change bowlers Matt Windley and Prajwal Janardhana kept up the pressure bowling tight spells, as wickets continued to fall at intervals without any Woodmancote batsman really making a score, Windley 8-2-28-0, Janardhana 9-3-25-2 were replaced with the returning Risbey who seemed to have found his control again and picked up another wicket and Field who struggled to find his line despite bowling good deliveries in between and managed to remove Nightingale (32) who had hung around quite a while! Risbey 8-0-32-0 and Field 5-0-29-1 were replaced with Harry Senior2-1-6-1 and Green 2.1-1-5-2 and between the two manged to bowl out the tail as Woodmancote closed on 150 for 10 from 43.1 overs. Special mention to wicketkeeper Harry Wise who took 3 excellent catches and kept very well throughout, this was backed up by the rest of teams fielding. Dymock picked up 20 points and now head the table after the first two games, they now head to Stroud 2nd hoping to build on their impressive start.
