DYMOCK CRICKET CLUB REPORT

MARCH 2020 – From Chairman of Dymock Cricket Club, Martin Fowke

I have written this report several times and am now resigned to the fact that it may be old news by the time that it is read, and that things inevitably will have progressed. These are certainly strange times and nothing like many of us have seen before.

Many will have far more important concerns than the cricket club, and our thoughts are with all of those in the community that are suffering directory or indirectly because of  COVID – 19.

Unfortunately,  we have already had to postpone two of our main fundraising events. The Poet Potter was due to be held on Saturday 21st March. We hope to be able to re-arrange for later in the year but cannot confirm dates yet.

The Festival has also been postponed. We have set a provisional date of 30th August for this, so please put this in your diaries and let everyone know. We cannot confirm the date yet for obvious reasons but are determined to make it happen if we can.

The half marathon and 10k run at the time of writing this report are still going ahead on 24th May, but this of course is being continually reviewed and we will be listening to advice from the relevant authorities.  These two events would also be re-arranged for later in the year if we have to postpone.

We have also taken the decision to cancel all cricketing activity until the end of April. So junior registration and training will not happen as originally planned. We will keep you informed. Indoor nets are cancelled.  We will let everyone know as soon as we are able to confirm dates.

Finally, the cricket force weekend planned for 29th March is also cancelled.

This is obviously putting severe pressure on our finances, but thanks to extremely diligent control from our treasurer and committee we will survive. We hope that the community will support the events we do later in the year once the restrictions are lifted.

We will try to keep people up to date through facebook and on our website. The committee of the club remain very positive about the long term situation and we look forward to opening the gates and seeing you all in the not too distant future.

I hope that I never have to write such a depressing report again!   Keep safe!

Martin
